Why this exists

Lake County's elected officials make decisions every week that touch your roads, your schools, your water, and your property taxes. Those decisions are public record. The agendas, minutes, votes, and dollar amounts are all posted online. Almost nobody reads them, because they are long, technical, and scattered across half a dozen government websites.

DocketHeron reads them so you don't have to. Every week we summarize what the Lake County Board of County Commissioners and the Lake County School Board actually did, in plain English, with a link to the official record for every claim. We also keep a running Term Tracker that shows who holds each elected seat, when their term ends, and when the next election is.

What we are

Who runs it

DocketHeron is an independent, reader-supported publication based in Lake County, Florida. It is not affiliated with Lake County government, any city, any school district, or any political organization. It started in November 2026 with one county and one goal: make it easy to know what your local government is doing.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected issue and on the website page.

How it's made

Public meeting records are collected and first-drafted with software, then reviewed by a person before anything is published. Nothing goes out without a human reading it against the source.
